3 Signs There Is Something Wrong With Your Roof

You depend on your roof to keep you protected from the elements outside. While your roof is meant to withstand the snow, wind, rain, hail and sleet, you have to do your part to make sure it is in top shape at all times. Roofs require maintenance to prevent them from failing on you. If you notice one of the following signs around your home, you need to call upon a roofing pro to come out and take a look at them to determine what's going on.

Water Spots on the Ceiling

When you look up, you shouldn't see anything more than a nice white ceiling above your head. If you notice any dark water spots on your ceiling, you more than likely have a leak somewhere. Regardless of whether it is only a small spot that is the size of a quarter or a long streak running from the peak of your roof to the outside edge, you need to get it taken care of right away. Slow leaks aren't always as easy to identify as large leaks are. The longer you allow the leak to sit there, the worse the damage could be. Before you know it, mold has built up in your roof and attic and has to be removed to prevent additional health problems.

Granules in the Gutters

If you recently noticed a bunch of granules washing out of your gutters and downspouts, there is a good chance that your shingles are starting to break down and need to be replaced. When your shingles are in good condition, the granules aren't going to end up coming off. They will stay right where they should be. When they start coming off, is when you have a problem.

Shingles are Cracking

If your shingles are starting to crack and break, all of the granules are probably gone. When that happens, your shingles end up becoming brittle and breaking off in chunks. This often occurs when the shingles are simply too old and need to be replaced. Direct sunlight can take its toll on your roof, which is why you need to have the roof inspected from time to time for possible damage or deterioration.

If any of the above sounds like something you are dealing with, you need to get a licensed roofing professional to your home to see what's going on. This way they can get it fixed and prevent further damage from occurring.
